UK Jewish Film Festival in Leeds

Welcome to the UK Jewish Film Festival on tour in Leeds. We are delighted to return with a selection of highlights from the latest in comtemporary world Jewish cinema. From the award-winning Israeli comic-drama Noodle to Blessed is the Match, the dramatic tale of Jewish World War II heroine Hannah Senesh, we invite you to join us to share some unique cinematic experiences. HOW TO BOOK  TICKETS

For screenings at Cottage Road Cinema tickets can be reserved in advance by telephone up until the day before the screening. Please note there is no credit card payment and that collection and payment for tickets should be made at the cinema box office up to half an hour before the performance time. The cinema box office number is 0113 275 1606 and is open during cinema opening hours 6-10pm. Your patience is appreciated if your call is routed to an answer machine. A member of staff will get back to you as soon as possible.  

For screenings at The Marjorie & Arnold  Ziff Community Centre tickets can also be purchased in advance up until the day before the screening. Advance tickets can be purchased through Makor by calling 0113 268 0899.

A charming and deeply moving comic-drama about a young Israeli woman and an abandoned Chinese boy whose lives converge in the most surprising manner.

Starring Sir Derek Jacobi
A bitter sweet comedy and cautionary tale set in present day Golders Green.

Producer Daniel Jewel and Scriptwriter Raphael Smith will introduce the screening

A madcap tragi-comic-romance from France as Jewish bonviveur Salomon finds unexpected love.

Funny and touching film looks at the parallel lives of two young teachers, an Orthdox Jewess and a traditional Muslim as they negotiate the pressure to enter into a 'good marriage'.

Israel, 2007, 85 mins, Hebrew and Arabic with English subtitles

Set in Berlin, against the backdrop of the 2006 Lebanon War, Strangers is a beautifully acted, down to earth love story with two great leads in the free-spirited Azabal and the handsome Levo.

The Life & Death of Hannah Senesh

Dir: Roberta Grossman
USA, 2008, 85 mins, English

Hannah Senesh was just 22 when she parachuted into Nazi-occupied Europe with a small band of Jewish volunteers from Palestine: the only military rescue mission for Jews during the Holocaust.

Followed by discussion with Prof. Griselda Pollock, specialist in studies of trauma, catastrophe and cultural memory.

* Closing Film: The Secrets

Dir. Avi Nesher
Israel/France, 2007, 120 mins, Hebrew and French with English subtitles

Transport two beautiful young women to a seminary in Sfad, throw in a murder mystery, a French cinema legend, a klezmer playing pharmacist and a lesbian love story, and you have Avi Nesher's astonishing new feature film.
